At the end of June 2010, the Carinthia University of Applied Sciences made a “quantum leap” with the opening of its new laboratory center in Villach. With 1,600 square meters of space and the option to expand, the “Science and Energy Labs” are among the largest and best-equipped laboratories in southern Austria.

A former production hall provided the opportunity to set up the necessary laboratory space. On the one hand, the Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture uses the laboratories in the research focus “Material, Design and Construction”, particularly for the development of new building material technologies as well as for constructive testing and building physics tests. In addition, R&D in the field of future-oriented, sustainable technologies – such as e-mobility, solar energy, etc. – is carried out in the laboratories as part of the “Electrical Energy and Mobility Systems” degree course.
