Endowed professorship for sustainable innovative timber construction – establishment of a timber research centre
In March of this year, the endowed professorship in the field of sustainable innovative timber construction was filled. The five-year professorship aims to establish a timber research centre that will serve as a centre of excellence for innovative and sustainable timber construction, providing visible impetus both within Austria and internationally. The focus is on high-quality, application-oriented research projects.
A key objective is the long-term development of research, dissemination and teaching in the border triangle of Italy, Slovenia and Austria. In this context, the aim is to establish an international conference platform and a certification body for reuse in timber construction.
The research agenda of the planned Wood Research Centre focuses on three key areas:
- Structural timber construction and connection technology (in particular detachable connections in line with the circular economy)
- Dematerialisation and structural optimisation of components for resource efficiency
- Sustainability strategies in timber construction, with a particular focus on circular value creation and ecological assessment
The endowed professorship and the resulting timber research centre are intended to make a sustainable contribution to the further development of timber construction in the Alpine-Adriatic region and beyond.
